17p Deletion

Fillmore and his collaborators have investigated the prognostic significance of 17p deletion in patients with multiple myeloma, specifically examining disparities in prevalence and outcomes between racial groups. Their research demonstrates that while African American patients exhibit a lower prevalence of this high-risk genetic deletion compared to White patients, the deletion negatively impacts survival rates equally across both cohorts. These findings suggest that the survival advantages observed in younger African American patients are driven by factors other than the absence of 17p deletion.
