Research into the intersection of immune dysregulation and oncology has explored how systemic inflammatory states influence cancer risk. Fillmore and his collaborators investigated this relationship in uveal melanoma, finding that the presence of autoimmune and immune-mediated conditions may serve as a protective factor against the development of these ocular tumors. This work suggests that heightened immune surveillance associated with autoimmunity may reduce the incidence of specific malignancies.
