Confirmatory Biopsy

Fillmore has investigated the utility of confirmatory biopsies in patients undergoing active surveillance for prostate cancer. His research demonstrates that magnetic resonance imaging lacks the negative predictive value required to reliably rule out higher-grade disease, suggesting that imaging cannot yet replace biopsy. These findings underscore the continued necessity of confirmatory biopsies to prevent the underdiagnosis of clinically significant cancer.
