Fillmore has investigated the factors that drive unplanned hospitalizations and emergency department visits among high-risk older adult populations. His research demonstrates that specific clusters of multimorbidity, rather than the total number of comorbidities, independently predict increased healthcare utilization in patients with advanced lung cancer. Additionally, his work suggests that SGLT2 inhibitor use is associated with a reduction in psychiatric emergency department visits for older adults with mood or psychotic disorders.
