Latent Class Analysis

Fillmore has applied latent class analysis to identify distinct patterns of multimorbidity among older veterans treated for advanced malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer and multiple myeloma. His research demonstrates that specific clusters of chronic conditions, particularly multisystem impairment, are more predictive of mortality and unplanned hospitalizations than the total number of comorbidities. These findings suggest that the qualitative composition of a patient's comorbidities provides critical prognostic information beyond traditional comorbidity indices.
