Fillmore and his colleagues have investigated how metabolic shifts in the tryptophan-kynurenine pathway contribute to cancer-associated thrombosis. Their research demonstrates that dietary tryptophan increases kynurenine levels, which subsequently promotes venous thrombogenicity in colon cancer models. These findings identify the enzyme indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 as a critical mediator of this process and a potential therapeutic target for reducing blood clot risk in malignancy.
