Mucosal Melanoma

Mucosal melanoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy with distinct etiologies compared to cutaneous melanoma. Fillmore and his collaborators investigated potential risk factors for this disease, specifically examining the association between prior keratinocyte carcinomas and the subsequent development of mucosal melanoma. Their multi-institutional research suggests that a history of keratinocyte carcinoma may serve as a significant risk factor, providing insight into the shared carcinogenic pathways or systemic predispositions associated with these tumors.
