Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio

Fillmore has investigated the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio as a systemic marker of inflammation and its role in predicting neurodegeneration. His research demonstrates that an elevated ratio is independently associated with an increased risk of incident Alzheimer disease and related dementias across multiple large cohorts, including the Framingham Heart Study and the Veterans Health Administration. Furthermore, he has shown that this ratio correlates with cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers of amyloid and tau pathology in cognitively unimpaired older adults.
