Platelet Function
Platelet function serves as a potential prognostic marker for the development of cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease. Fillmore and his collaborators demonstrated that higher platelet reactivity in middle age is independently associated with an increased risk of dementia over a twenty-year period. Specifically, the aggregation response to adenosine diphosphate was found to be a significant predictor of dementia risk, second only to age and hypertension.
