SGLT2 Inhibitors

Fillmore and his collaborators have investigated the neuroprotective potential of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in high-risk populations. His research demonstrates that the use of these agents is associated with a significantly lower risk of all-cause dementia and a reduction in psychiatric emergency department visits among older adults with mood or psychotic disorders. These findings suggest that SGLT2 inhibitors may offer cognitive benefits beyond their primary application in glycemic control.
