Research conducted by Fillmore and colleagues examines the impact of substance use disorders on clinical outcomes in older veterans with acute myeloid leukemia. The data indicate that these comorbidities are significant predictors of poor prognosis, specifically associated with lower rates of complete remission during standard venetoclax-based therapies. These findings highlight the necessity of considering behavioral health comorbidities when managing hematologic malignancies in veteran populations.
